Louisiana General Contractor (The NASCLA exam)

Louisiana Contractor (The NASCLA exam) In Louisiana, a contractor's license is required for any job over $2,500. The NASCLA contractor license exam is used for the General Building classification in LA (Commercial Builder Contractor). With this license you may build residential, however the contract must be for more than two houses on any one contract.  To build residential one house per contract or a contract for less than three residences, Louisiana requires you to have a Residential Builder Contractor License.  On a commercial or industrial project they cannot perform electrical; plumbing; heating, ventilating and cooling; piping; or general engineering but can sub-contract these crafts to properly licensed contractors.

The NASCLA exam is accepted in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, U.S. Virgin Islands, West Virginia.

All contractors must take a business law exam also.

All Lousiana applications have a 60 day waiting period.
