West Virginia General Contractor (The NASCLA exam)

West Virginia Contractor (The NASCLA exam) In West Virginia, a contractor's license is required for any job over $2,500. The NASCLA exam is used for the General Building classification in WV. With the General Building classification a contractor can perform or subcontract all crafts on a residential structure. On a commercial or industrial project they cannot perform electrical; plumbing; heating, ventilating and cooling; piping; or general engineering but can sub-contract these crafts to properly licensed contractors.

There is no experience requirement in WV to get a license.

The NASCLA exam is accepted in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, U.S. Virgin Islands, West Virginia. All contractors must take a business law exam also.
