    State Requirements & Application

    Requirements:
    * Requires 2 years experience.

    * Any one engaged in construction-related contracting in New Mexico must have a New Mexico contractor license.

    * The New Mexico Business and Law exam is also required to be passed to obtain your New Mexico contractors license.

    * Pre-Approval is required to sit for the exam. Approval takes 7 business days on average.

    * New Mexico issues contracting licenses in approximately 100 different classifications.

    These classifications can be found in the New Mexico Administrative Code, Title 14, Chapter 6.

    New Mexico does not offer reciprocity with any other states.

    Permitted Work

    With this license you may erect, alter, repair or demolish homes, residences and apartment houses accommodating not in excess of four family units, Groups R-1 and R-3, as those groups are defined in 14.7.3 NMAC.May also bid and contract for items included in Group U, as defined in 14.7.3 NMAC, when incidental to these structures. Includes all work described by the GS specialty classifications, provided the work is limited to residential construction as defined under this provision.
